Terms and Conditions

1. Minimum age

Minimum age for any lesson or course is 18.

2. Face-to-face lessons

Face-to-face lessons usually take place at your home or place of work.

3. Online lessons

Online lessons use a user-friendly online platform.  You will need a computer/laptop, a microphone and a good internet connection!  A headset or earphones are also recommended.

4. Payment of fees

One-to-one lessons: Fees for face-to-face courses may be paid by bank transfer, PayPal or in cash, and are due at the end of each lesson or at the end of each week as agreed. Fees for online lessons or packages must be paid by bank transfer or PayPal at least 48 hours before each lesson or block of lessons.  Fees for the OET writing feedback service must be paid in advance. Lessons within a package must all be taken within 6 months of the payment date.

Group courses: Fees for group courses must be paid in full at least 7 days before the start of the course.

No refunds are possible once payment has been made.

5. Rescheduling lessons – one-to-one only

If you wish to reschedule a lesson, please let me know as soon as possible (at least 24 hours in advance – see cancellation policy below).  I will do my best to change the time/day, though this will not always be possible.  If I need to reschedule a lesson, I will let you know as soon as I can.  However, this is very rare!

6. Cancellation policy

One-to-one lessons: No refunds are possible once payment has been made, but a lesson may be rescheduled if at least 24 hours’ notice is given.  Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged at the rate of 100% of the lesson fee.  If you are absent from a lesson without giving any notice, the lesson cannot be rescheduled and the lesson fee cannot be refunded.  If I need to cancel a lesson then I will refund any fees paid or reschedule, as agreed.

Group courses: If you wish to cancel your booking for a course, you must do this at least 7 days before the start of the course.  If cancelled less than 7 days before the start of the course, 50% of the course fee will be charged.  If cancelled less than 2 working days before the start of the course, 100% of the course fee will be charged.  No refunds can be given once a course has started.  If you are absent from a lesson, the lesson fee cannot be refunded and the lesson cannot be rescheduled.  Group lessons or courses may be cancelled if there are not enough students enrolled.  In this case any fees paid in advance will be reimbursed.   

If I need to cancel a lesson or course then I will refund any fees paid or reschedule the lesson.  

7. Lesson times

Lessons will start and finish on time!  The lesson time can’t be extended if you are late.  In the rare instance that I am late I will extend the lesson time by the corresponding number of minutes.

8. Resources

Any necessary resources such as a coursebook (if appropriate) or other material are usually provided at no extra cost.  A coursebook is included only when appropriate, and on receipt of payment for at least 10 lessons.  I may also recommend purchasing other resources if appropriate.

9. Writing tasks

Lesson fees include feedback on a maximum of one short writing task (up to 300 words, for example one OET letter or one essay).  The OET Clinic package includes feedback on up to 3 letters.  The OET Intensive package includes feedback on up to 4 letters.  The OET Plus package includes feedback on up to 5 letters.

10. OET writing feedback service

No refunds are possible once payment has been made.  Letters must be submitted on the day that has been booked.

11. Your commitment!

In the case of extended courses, lessons will usually take place on a regular basis, for example weekly, unless otherwise agreed.  If you frequently cancel lessons, you might lose your time slot.  Self-study in between lessons is essential if you wish to make progress more quickly.  Successful language learning needs commitment, regular study and practice!’48
